This work is based on a series of lectures delivered at the High Council of Islamic Philosophy (Majma‘-e ‘Ali-ye Hikmat-e Islami) in Qom, and was later edited and published by Bustan-e-Ketab in 2012.
The book outlines the key features of Shi‘a thought in mystical matters and addresses several misunderstandings and doubts concerning mysticism. The purpose of the work is to present a clear picture of the foundations of Shi‘a mysticism in contrast to both ancient and modern mystical and pseudo-mystical trends.
Topics such as the nature of Islamic mysticism, its relationship with reason and religion, and the distinction between theoretical and practical mysticism are discussed in brief.
The second edition of the book was published in winter 2013 by the High Council of Islamic Philosophy, with an additional chapter discussing the core principles and foundational elements of Shi‘a mysticism.
