Mohammad Fanaei Eshkevari has pursued both traditional seminary and academic education, integrating classical Islamic learning with modern philosophical studies. He entered the Islamic seminary of Qom in 1976, where he studied jurisprudence (fiqh), principles of jurisprudence (usul), and traditional texts in Islamic philosophy and mysticism under the guidance of prominent scholars, continuing this course of study until 1991.
In 1992, he began his academic studies at McGill University in Canada, earning a Master’s degree in Comparative Philosophy from the Institute of Islamic Studies. He later completed a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion at McGill’s Faculty of Religious Studies in 2001. His doctoral dissertation focused on The Epistemology of Mystical Experience.
He currently serves as a full professor and head of the Philosophy Department at the Imam Khomeini Educational and Research Institute. His academic work focuses on Comparative Philosophy and Islamic Mysticism. He has authored twenty-three books and published over seventy articles in the fields of philosophy, mysticism, and religion, in both Iranian and international journals.
